6 New Year cards with Spellbinders Dies

A very happy 2018 to all readers!!! Here’s wishing all your crafting dreams come true this year :-) #CraftyFriendsAreTheBest

I have 6 black and gold cards to share today. Are you ready? Here you go:

For each of these I used

  1. pre-made black card bases,

  2. gold mirrored cardstock for the die cuts,

  3. Spellbinders dies and

  4. gold confetti

I started by making 5 circle die cuts using one of the Hero Arts infinity circle dies. I heat embossed ‘2018’ and ‘Happy New Year’ sentiment.

  1. The 2018 came from Recollections™ Elegant Double Script Clear Stamps.

  2. The ‘Happy New Year’ sentiment from Hero Arts Nov My Monthly Hero card kit.

  3. The gold embossing powder I used was the ultra fine detail gold embossing powder from Simon Says Stamp.

I used my favorite adhesives – Scotch foam tape for dimension and mod podge for confetti and adhering without dimension.

Here are the card specific details (left to right from above image and then down).

Card 1:

  1. The first card uses Holiday Frame – Large Die of the Month Club for Nov 2017. I die cut the corner one twice and layered it facing each other.

  2. Over the center I foam mounted one of the black circles which has gold heat embossed ‘2018’ and ‘happy new year’.

  3. In addition to the gold confetti, I added two little circles which were die cut from the same two corner die cuts.

Card 2:

  1. The beautiful border is cut using Classic Lace Die Set – Large Die of the Month Club for Sep 2017

  2. The sentiment is from Hero Arts November 2017 My Monthly Hero card kit. The stamp set in this kit has all the great sentiments for Winter / Holidays / Christmas / Hanukkah / New Year time. So glad I bought it before it sold out! I die cut it using a banner die from My Favorite Things Tag Builder Blueprints 5.

Card 3:

  1. For this one I used the dies from December card kit of the month from Spellbinders.

  2. I also added a tiny little die cut from the Ironwork Accents die set from Spellbinders. I fussy cut it into two parts – used one of them here and another on the 5th card below.

  3. Over the center I foam mounted one of the black circles which has gold heat embossed ‘2018’ and ‘happy new year’. But this time, I cut out the center sentiment using a banner die from My Favorite Things Tag Builder Blueprints 5. I lifted this banner higher with double foam tape.

Card 6:

  1. For this one, I used the Ironwork Accents die set from Spellbinders. I die cut out 3 pieces – one larger one to go under the black sentiment circle and two more little ones for the top left corner.

  2. Where the two tiny ones meet on the left corner, I foam mounted two more circles – one black and one gold, just for added interest.

I love love love how these cards turned out. I think this is one of few (if not first ever) black and gold cards. I was inspired by a good friend of mine for this color scheme when she picked up these colors for our group’s new year celebration this year. Thank you, @Shruti!

I learned some things while making cards like these where each card is different, but all these are really kinda mass produced:

  1. It’s easier to keep some elements common – for instance in this case, I used all pre-made card bases. Obviously for these, I kept my supplies to a minimal (except for all the dies, of course) – everywhere I used the same gold mirrored cardstock and same gold confetti sequins.

  2. It’s also a good idea to create some elements exactly the same – really mass produce these. Take for example the sentiment circle in my case.

  3. I arranged the digits as well as sentiment in my MISTI and stamped the whole cluster over and over, added embossing powder and heat set all of them at once. This saved some time and also allowed me to heat up my heat tool once and for all.
