After playing around with the beautiful floral images from Altenew, I decided to challenge myself to do something non-floral and non-pink. (You can check out all my floral Altenew peonies creations here, here, here and here.)
For today’s card, I used the Birthday Bits stamp set from Simon Says Stamp with with blue, gold/yellow and black inks. This stamp set came with the SSS September 2015 card kit.
Card front
My yellow / gold color was going to be the lighter color in my color scheme, blue would be next darker and black would be darkest. So I added largest images with yellow, medium images with blue and kept black only for accents + a tiny strip on the side. This way the card does not look like it is too dark – it looks more balanced.
I started by stamping my largest solid yellow balloon. I stamped it using SSS Duckling ink. To give it an appearance of one side having the light shining on it, I randomly dabbed off the color from the solid stamp. Next to the solid big balloon, I added an outline blue balloon which is slightly smaller in size.
On the diagonal end of these balloons, I added two more balloons – smaller solid blue and larger outline yellow.
Then I added the sentiment in black followed by the other filler images in various colors. For the striped yellow circles and yellow dots, I used the Tsukineko Brilliance – Galaxy Gold ink. It looks very similar to the duckling ink, but in real life, it has a subtle gold shine to it. Looks beautiful!!
I trimmed the card panel to be same height as the largest stitched rectangle die as I did not want a centered panel with this one. I wanted it to be offset to one side. For some added interest I added a black washi tape on one side. For embellishments, I used glittery enamel dots in yellow and blue.
Inside
My card base was made of a blue violet card stock on which it would be hard to write a message, so I made a white panel for the inside too.

To keep a lot of white space on the inside, I kept the stamped images only in two corners and used only filler images. It gives an impression of continuity of pattern, as similar clusters are on the outside, without needing to incorporate larger balloon images.
Envelope
I decorated a matching white envelope using similar clusters made with filler images, stamped in two corners.
I am thinking of making another variation of this design using girly colors – pink, purple and gold? May be instead of the gold ink, I could heat emboss some of the smaller filler images using gold embossing powder? That will look cool, don’t you think?
