Best Teacher Ever – birthday card for teacher

Hi crafty friends! :-) I have been keeping myself busy creating a little something every day this past week in spirit of the 30-day-coloring-challenge. I’m still making cards out of all the coloring I did, so those will come later. For today I’m sharing a Best Teacher card that we made for my older princess’s teacher.

I used several different stamp sets from several different companies and also some dies. This card has lot of color, shimmer and layers. It was a little out of my comfort zone, because I am usually making cards with floral designs and pink-blue-green colors. This card does not have any of those, but I love how it turned out. Hope you will like it too :-)

The background for this card got created when I was playing with SSS My Stars stamp set. I was randomly stamping with some distress and some SSS die inks on an off white card stock from my stash. I liked how it turned out, so I decided to use it for my card here.

I wanted an element of shine / shimmer so I heat embossed a piece of white card stock (also from my stash) using Martha Stewart gold embossing powder and die cut stars out of it. I used matching stars die for cutting these stars. I also cut out a small strip of the same paper to add on one side. I learned this trick from Carissa Wiley of Sprinkled with glitter. I like how it adds a little bit of extra interest. {Do visit her blog and leave her some love!}

As the focal point, I took a couple papers from Authentique Classique Beauty 6×6 paper pad and die cut a layered tag using My Favorite Things Tag Builder Blueprints 5 tags.

Next I did some more stamping using Lil Inker Designs’ Teacher Talk stamp set. I love this stamp set for teacher related sentiments and also some of the ones that I can use for non-teacher cards. I can see myself using these on several different occassions.

I stamped the words “A+”, “best ever” and “#1” on the tag. I also temporarily adhered the tag where I wanted it to be and stamped the large “teacher” word on one of its side.

Finally I added some ribbon + golden floss on the tag and foam mounted it on the card. I also spread out my little golden stars around the card and adhered them in place.

For her birthday, we gave her this card, with my older one’s handwritten message inside and a gift card to Barnes & Noble. She was very happy and it made my day to see her love our card + gift! :-)

Hope you like it too and feel inspired to try something like this!
