Hi guys, one of the things I want to do in 2020 is to diversify – I want to make things with Felt and Fabric in addition to making them with paper. And I decided to use this little holiday break for just that. Here are the two headbands I created:
Blue flower headband:
For the blue flowers, I used the Contour Petal Pusher steel rule die set from Spellbinders. For the main large flower, I cut one whole flower, then separated each petal on its own. For the center of this flower, I cut out a strip of darker blue felt to measure 0.75 inch by 3.5 inch. With sharp scissors (Tim Holtz mini snips) gave this strip a fringe. I also slit the bottom of each of my petal glued them together creating like a small cup shape. I hot glued the dark blue fringe to a yellow felt ball (felt pom pom) and then added each petal slightly offsetting them.
For the little bud, I just cut out two petals and separated them as well. Instead of the dark blue fringe, I added details to the two petals using Spectrum Noir marker. Next I created the bud just like the flower.
For the green leaf, I used Contour Leaf Me Alone die with some dark green felt. I also added one more green felt pom pom and some trimmed up gold leaves to complete my cluster.
On the back of this I hot-glued the headband and held it in place using another circular piece of blue felt (same as the flower petals), so that if anything peeks from the side, it all looks seamless.
Pink flower headband:
For this one, I created the center using a folded-over fringe. I cut out a strip of dark pink felt measuring 1 inch by 5 inches. I folded it over and hot glued the edges together. I added thin cut fringe using Tim Holtz mini snips, rolled it onto itself and secured with hot glue.
For the light pink petals I cut out two each of the smallest and the mid-sized flowers from Contour Tammy Tutterow Floweret Posies. For the smallest ones, I slit apart two petals and scooped away the center part creating a scalloped ribbon kinda thing. I hot-glued this around the dark pink fringe roll. For both the larger flowers, I separated a petal from each and overlapped it with the next one to form very shallow dish shapes. Then I added them under the rolled flower making sure to keep the overlapped petals opposite to each other so that one side of the flower does not become too bulky.
I cut two leaves each from dark green and light green felt (free hand) and hot glued one on top of the other. I added two of these leaf sets to the bottom of my flower. Finally using a pink felt piece, I attached the headband to my flower cluster.
