Hot foiled hearts Valentine card – January’20 Glimmer Kit Add On – “Snarky H

Hi friends, the Sun has decided to bless us with his presence today and I am celebrating by creating a bright & cheery card full of foiled hearts :)

This month’s Glimmer Foil kit is just perfect for Valentine’s day – it has gorgeous corner borders and matching dies for making envelopes + several hearts with words on them. The kit itself comes with three hearts – ‘Love you’, ‘XOXO’ and ‘Wink Wink’. These hearts do have a matching die for cutting them out and there is also one additional die that cuts out the word ‘love’ in a cute scripty font. You can check out the reveal here.

The addon (sold separately) comes with one heart die and several more word-hearts: ‘Nope’, ‘Meh’, “QT Pie’, “Luv u more’, ‘Text me’, ‘Kiss me’, ‘Next’ and ‘Blah’.

I picked up all the non-snarky one :) and foiled them in a sorta ombre pattern using Rose Gold, Pink and Magenta colors for foiling. When I was foiling the ‘Kiss me’, I had a large area of the cardstock get foiled, I used it to die cut the word ‘love’  Yes, it wasn’t perfect but I used a matching alcohol marker – BP4 from Spectrum Noir to color over the white areas and it works just fine. #happyaccident

I also used the Magenta and Teal color foils to foil a couple flowers and leaves using the Glimmering Layered Flowers plates. Lastly, I dry embossed a card base with Love Stripes embossing folder and on top mounted my hearts, sentiment and a pretty foiled flower.

Here are some things I learned while foiling all these hearts:

  1. It is important to let the platform become really nice and hot. Then foiling gets better results. I foiled one set of hearts immediately after it said platform was ready, but I did not get good results. I let it sit for some more time and then next set came out really neat.

  2. I had several little places where there was foiling outside the design areas – a sand eraser was the perfect little tool to get rid of those and fix things.

  3. For under-foiling, if it is only a little I found out that coloring ever so slightly with a matching marker did the trick. Not sure if this will work every time though.

Have you tried glimmer foiling yet? What are your best tips? Please share, I’d love to know :)
