Spellbinders | Large Die of the Month – Nov 2019

Hi friends, have you checked out the Large Die of the Month for this month from Spellbinders, yet? These are just so adorable. You can actually make Santa and a girl / boy elf. And there is an add-on die that lets you make a reindeer.

For today’s card, I made a girl elf and the card itself is a peek-through window card. :)

When a die set lets you make a doll or something with several different colored pieces, I like to plan my colors. This helps me die cut several pieces of the same color with one pass through the die cutting machine. Here is how I planned this set:

I die cut all these accordingly and then assembled my girl elf.  Let’s call her ‘Giggles’, shall we? That’s what we named our elf on the shelf :)

Okay, now for the card itself. I made two 5×7 rectangle panels using white cardstock. On the front panel, I laid down the elf and planned where I wanted the circle die cut to be. I marked the area lightly with a pencil. I knew I wanted to dry emboss my card front. But if I did that before stamping I’d need to deal with wonky surface, so I did my stamping first.

After stamping, came die cutting using Fancy Edged circle die (a plain one, not a scalloped one) and then dry embossing using Blistered embossing folder by Tammy Tutterow.

Lastly I added my elf on the inside of the card so that the elf is peeking through this window, adhered both panels to make a top folding card and finished it off with some sparkling gems.
