SSD Tic Tac Toe Challenge 20

Hello crafty friends, we have a brand new tic-tac-toe challenge for you over at Stamping Smiles Design blog. Here’s the grid:

I made two cards using the almost supplies and the same row as my inspiration.

Can you tell which row I went for? Yup, the first vertical one on the left – Spinner Card + Watercolor + Use puns.

I created the top card first. It was kind of a practice piece, but it turned out good, so decided to go ahead and share it here.

I started by die cutting two hearts from Strathmore watercolor paper using one of the MFT stitched hearts stax dies and stamped my images on each of them using black archival ink. All these images and sentiments are from Simon Says Stamp “apple of my pie” stamp set which came with the November 2015 card kit from Simon Says Stamp.

The sentiment actually says, “You’re the Apple of my Pie”. I cut the sentiment into three parts – ‘You’re’, ‘The Apple’ and ‘Of my Pie’. On one heart I stamped the apples, one leaf and two sentiment parts – ‘You’re’ and ‘The Apple’. On another heart, I stamped the pie image, the same leaf and the last sentiment piece – ‘Of My Pie’. I colored all my images using gansai tambi watercolors.

I adhered both hearts back to back while sandwiching a twine in between. I die cut a rectangle on the front panel of my card using second largest rectangle from SSS Stiched rectangles dies. Also made two frames using the same rectangle + largest rectangle – one using patterned paper for the outermost layer and another using SSS white cardstock. I used the white one to adhere two ends of the twine securely using some score tape. This frame then got sandwiched between the card front and the patterned paper frame.

On the inside I added a little panel with double sided patterned paper as I did not want the background of the spinning hearts to be blank. As you can see above first it shows one pattern, and when you flip it open, is reveals another :-)

The second card was made in a similar way except I used a larger heart die to create the frames. I also used foam tape to secure the twine and added washi tape on both borders. I did one more fun thing with this card – I repeated stamped my apple and leaf images onto an ochre polka dot patterned paper to make my own matching paper. ;-)

I really had fun putting these cards together. Hope you like them too.
