Thinking of you – card using supplies from SSS April 2016 card kit

Hello crafty peeps, I hope you guys are enjoying some sunny days now. I am still on vacation, but decided to drop by with a card idea. This one uses the Simon Says Stamp April 2016 card kit. I am still waiting for my May card kit and I hope it gets here soon :-)

Often times SSS card kits come with patterned papers that have several square or rectangular images, or even journaling cards, which look like they are meant for scrapbooking. But did you know you can use them for card making just as easily?

The April 2016 card kit came with a couple papers that had square / rectangle images. I made two cards using several of the images. I’m sharing one today. Will share the second one in another post.

For this card, I have combined several of the sentiments patterns but in a way that makes it all work together cohesively. Since all the papers are color coordinated (they are from the same collection), it is easier to combine them.

I cut out all those small sentiments as rectangles first. That’s how the images were, on the original patterned paper and cutting them as they were, was easy. Plus it helped me save rest of the rectangles for other cards. :-)

The tag:

For the main tag, I used the MFT Dienamics Tag Builder dies and cut out a tag out of a piece of cardstock. I used the same die to cut out my main design – the flowery pattern with “Life is beautiful. Amazing. So very good.” sentiment. I adhered both negative and positive pieces on to my cardstock tag so that the sentiment reads completely.

At the top, there was some open space, as the flowery pattern rectangle was not large enough. I simply attached another small patterned paper on my cardstock die and cut off the excess on all sides.

For the small hole at the top, I traced it with a pencil by flipping over the cardstock and carved it out using my craft knife. I did not carve it out perfectly, so I added a hole reinforcement using another die from the same MFT tag builder set.

Sentiments:

First I cut out rectangle for each of these sentiments. Again, that’s how the patterns were on the paper, so I cut them out as rectangles :-)

Next I used the SSS Stitched rectangle dies to cut out three sides. For the fourth side, I did not want the edge to be always rectangular, so I arranged the die like so:

Capture

As you can see, I placed an edge of my SSS Stitched rectangle die on the rectangle where I wanted my paper to be cut and made sure rest of the edges are not covering any other area of the paper. Die cutting this way allowed me to make several different shapes, even if I didn’t have the exact die for that shape and size.

I also used some scraps from other cards to cut the tiny banner on top left, and to create the “love” banner below. That sentiment is from the “Flurries of love” stamp set by SSS.

I arranged and adhered everything on another patterned paper from my stash and mounted on a white card base. For finishing touches I used sequins, die cut hearts, twine for the top of the tag and a clothespin.

This card did take some time to get done. I just could not stop adding little pieces here & there and kept fidgeting with exactly how I wanted each piece to be. But I am happy with the final result for sure. I hope you like it too :-)
