Watercolor cards for 30 Day Coloring Challenge and World Card Making day 2015

Happy Fall Season, friends! The days are getting cooler, leaves are changing color, grocery stores are selling pumpkins and scarecrows. It’s my favorite time of the year. :-)

Some exciting things are happening in the crafting community too. Kathy from the daily marker has a 30 day coloring challenge. This is the 3rd one she is running, but it is my first one. It started on Oct-01 and will run throughout the month. If you haven’t checked out her blog, you must. She is uber creative and is so generous with sharing her talent. I am in love.

I know I may not be able to color every day of the month. So, me and my princesses have decided to color as many days as we can. The challenge is flexible like that. Coloring for me is therapeutic and I am also grateful for some non-tv-quite-time in our household.

This time I found myself going back to my medium of choice from my school / college days: watercolors. I have re-started sketching too. :-) This post shows my attempts renewed (after years of neglect).

To warm up, on the first two days I did some very elementary sketching + lettering and some watercolor.

I got myself new Zig clean color real brushes and a water brush. The only thing I regret about them is why I didn’t buy these sooner. Their colors are so vibrant, they blend well and overall these make a mess – free watercoloring experience. I am hooked.

In addition to the Zig markers, I did use just a smidge of the distress inks. Simply picked up little bit color with my water brush and applied it to the paper.

On both of these watercolor pieces, I did not use any stamps. I sketched all the images myself and also did all the lettering too with a pencil. After the watercolor dried completely around the letters, I went over them with a black permanent pen.

I know, I know, I need a lot more practice. But hey, I didn’t claim to be perfect. I claim to be just me. 100% me. :-)

On October 3rd, it was world card making day, so I skipped coloring. And instead of making some cards with other stamps etc, I turned the two watercolors into cards.

I did not do much else with these two cards – just added some easy embellishments with twine and sequins. I mounted the first one on a patterned notecard and second one on a standard A2 size card made using black cardstock.

I hope these cards inspire you to create something beautiful today. Even if it is only for 10 mins, get inky, get messy, take chances, lose yourself. It is so worth it!!!
