Altenew Build-a-flower Larkspur – Watercolored

Hi friends, I am playing with the Altenew Larkspur stamp set again – this time with my favorite mediums – water colors.

I am not a watercolor expert at all, but I love to play with them. For this card, I heat embossed a couple flowers and several leaves to create a floral cluster. Having heat embossed lines makes it so much easy to watercolor as you don’t need to worry about going outside the lines etc. The melted embossing powder forms a ‘well’ to hold the color in it. I did not do any precise details etc, just some loose watercoloring.

For the leaves I used Martha Stewart green embossing powder – a old one which I got along with my heat embossing kit. For the flowers I went with the new Mermaid color embossing powder from Simom Says Stamp. This one was included in last month’s kit.

For my base panel, I used Ranger watercolor paper and gave it a light wash with Gansai Tambi water colors 62 and 66. I also added tiny splatters of these same colors. I colored my flowers with same two colors. For the leaves I went with Gansai Tambi colors 52 and 53.

I die cut all my flowers and leaves with matching dies and also cut out a frame from black card stock + black fun foam using couple Spellbinders dies. I had also die cut my watercolor panel using largest plain rectangle die from Spellbinders hemstitched rectangle die set before starting coloring on it. After my background was completely dry I placed it in MISTI and arranged all my elements how I wanted them.

Inside the black frame I stamped my sentiment with black archival ink. This sentiment is from Altenew Remember This stamp set. I also stamped one more flower and leaf outline just behind where my floral cluster would be adhered. For the flower I used Paradise Teal archival ink and for the leaf Altenew Olive ink. Once I was happy with all the things on my background, I adhered all my die cut pieces, some using multi medium matte and some using foam tape.

As final touch I added some Martha Stewart chunky glitter to flower centers using multi medium matte and also added a few of the individual glitter pieces around the floral cluster.
