DIY Bottle Runner

I love DIYs. And a DIY that calls for just 10 mins of work to put it together and then you get to enjoy it? And something that uses recyclable materials and is eco-friendly? Bring it ON!!!

So, I was on Kirkland’s website the other day and spotted this:

Loved it for sure. I didn’t want to spend $50 on it. But the idea would not go out of my mind. So I decided to DIY it.

I collected a few bottles – soy sauces, tomato ketchups and a couple beer bottles. I soaked them in hot water + dish soap for some time and scrubbed their labels off. For the base, I used an empty cardboard box that came with one of the items we got shipped. With this new house we did get a lots of things shipped to us and so we got lots and lots of cardboard boxes. I was happy to put a at least few of those to good use. To make it look nice, I simply covered it with a contact paper that has wood pattern.

Tip: To cover any sharp pointy edges that come up zap it with a heat gun. The heat makes the contact paper lot more malleable and you can smooth it out nicely!

I used total 7 bottles and love how it turned out. I like to style it in different ways and move it around. In the picture above, I used gorgeous (eal) hydrangea blooms from my garden as the highlight. A couple fake ferns from my stash in the adjacent two bottles and then tucked in a few twigs that have been sprayed with glitter.

Tip (courtesy Pinterest!): Add a little bit of sugar to the water to make the hydrangeas last longer. Works like a charm!

At other times, I simply tuck in a bunch of fake flowers instead of the hydrangeas. Like so:

I also plan to change up the bottles sometime. May be replace all of them with yarn wrapped bottles like these?

Or may be replace them with empty milk / starbucks bottles? My brain in swimming with ideas :-)

Hope you enjoyed this idea. I am a huge fan of beautiful contact papers and how easily they can help transform things. I do have several more decor ideas using contact papers. Will share them in the coming days. Do watch this space ..
