Felt flower clip {Tutorial}

Hi all of you!

Hope all of you are doing great and feeling creative at this time.

I am going to show you how easily you can make cute hair clips – for yourself or for your kiddos or for friends.

This is one fun activity to do – it uses very few materials, can be done in 15 mins from start to finish and does not need any expert level skills.

Are you ready? Let’s get started:

Here’s what you’ll need:

1. Some cute buttons

2. Blank clips. I got a pack of colorful ones from HobbyLobby. You can even use some of the old ones you might have handy.

3. Felt in two colors – one for flower petals and another for leaves

{for those of you in India, you can get some really good felt material onine from ItsyBitsy }

4. Glue gun

5. Needle and thread

6. Scissors

Here’s how you can make the flower, leaves and the clip:

1. Use the pattern to cut 5 petals and 1 circle

2. Take one petal, fold it in half as shown in step 2

3. Fold it again like in step 3

4. Snip off the corner

5. Using the glue gun, attach it to the circle

{Repeat steps 2 – 5 for all 5 petals}

6. Using the needle and thread, attach a button to the center of flower

7. Cut leaves using the pattern

8. Assemble the flower + leaves and glue them onto the clip.

Voila!

You have just created a cute little felt flower clip!

This was my first time playing with felt. I had seen a lot of tutorials online including this one by Emily, but never tried one myself.

I was so encouraged by my success with the one above that I tried layering and combining with buttons to create a few more:

(1) The butterfly clip is my princess Diya’s favorite. I used a butterfly punch to get the basic pattern for this one and then eyeballed each layer to be a little smaller than the previous one. Hand stitched in the middle.

(2) and (3) are mainly just circles of different colors and button layered together. (2) also has leaves.

(4) is my favorite because it reminds me of a peocock feather and of my Kanha. :)

While I was busy making the clips and creating this tutorial for you, my babies were also busy.

Diya played with play-dough and Akshu entertained herself with my stash of buttons. {I had keep an eye on her lest she puts one of those in her mouth!}

Pure fun. For everyone.

Take care and stay creative!!
