Hello Friend – fun backgrounds for die cut focal points

Hi friends, today I have a simple to create, but fun card with a little pop of color + some dimension (nothing too layered or bulky, just enough).

Hello Friend - enhancing backgrounds

I love the big bold blooms and funky leaves from Spellbinders Victorian Garden Romantic Blooms die set. I die cut these using bold yellow for the flower and teal color for the leaves.

I wanted a fun, modern background for these, so I paired them with Simon Says Stamp Birthday Flowers stamp set. One of my favorite tricks to make my die cuts stand out is to add some stamping on the background. I went with Archival Blank for stripes and SSS Lemon Zest (my favorite) bright yellow for the dots.

I also layered everything temporarily on the cardbase and stamped my sentiment ‘hello friend’ using same black ink. This cardbase is one that came in Spellbinders card kit. It has a beautiful, almost subtle texture to it and brings out rest of the card elements nicely. With all the dots and stripes, I did not feel the need to add any bling, so I decided to roll with it as it is.

Hope you like this simple and fun idea. Do give it a try. For lots more ideas on how to enhance backgrounds for cards, do check my series Background Check. Enjoy!!
