Hi friends, hope you all are having a fabulous week!
Does it happen to you sometimes that you get drawn to the same crafting supplies over and over again for a spell of time? I am going through that phase right now. There are two dies that I am completely in love with and I just can’t stop using them!
The first one is this Clearly Besotted Leafy Accents Die
and the second one is the set of butterfly dies
I love both of these guys so much! I wanted to combine them into one card, so I started with something like this in mind. (I did not actually make that pretty digital sketch until I started writing this post for you guys. I just scribbled my idea on a piece of paper. ^^)
Card #1
For the first card, I used most of the pieces of cardstock I had in my stash. I also altered the original sketch just a tiny little bit.
1. I took piece of pink cardstock from my stash and stamped the beautiful flourish using one of the stamps from Flowering Flourishes Clear-Mount Stamp Set by StampinUp! and Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink. I then die cut this piece using the outline butterfly die from above set.
2. I found a sheet of clear shaped rhinestones by Me & My Big Ideas that I had almost forgotten. It is just like this one here, only colorless. I used a few of those to line the middle of this butterfly.
3. I used one of the other slightly shimmery, teal-ish paper (again from my stash) to die cut the leaves.
4. I also cut out one 1/2 inch strip of patterned paper and another bigger piece of patterned paper to cover the remaining card front. (Yes, I am a paper-hoarder! Eeikes!!)
5. I carefully lined up the strip and the wider piece of patterned paper to cover entire card front.
6. I die cut a few small circles using Simon Says Stamp Medium Dot Line Wafer Thin Die that came in SSS March 2015 card kit.
7. Next I arranged the leaves + butterflies as you can see above and then finished the card with some the little die cut circles and a couple more clear heart shaped rhinestones.
Card #2
Almost all the papers used in this card are from SSS September 2015 card kit. These patterns are just so happy, colorful and they make my heart sing. :-)
1. For the card above I created a standard top folding card with the Simon Says Stamp White 120# Cardstock.
2. I cut a strip of the triangular patterned paper for the right side. For the left side, I used the gray-white patterned paper with leafy design.
3. From another paper which has smaller patterns, I cut of the square with Merci written on it. I figured if I use that one, I wouldn’t need to add any other sentiment. :-)
4. For the butterfly, I used a plain mustard yellow paper again from SSS March card kit’s paper collection and cut out the base with outline butterfly die. I also used the Doll Pink cardstock to die cut the intricate butterfly design and layered it on top using glossy accents.
5. I also die cut the the leaf design using the teal-ish patterned paper with little stars on top that came with SSS September 2015 card kit.
6. Next I used temporary adhesive to lightly adhere the Merci sentiment square on my patterned paper and fussy cut around it. I also used the leaf die to die cut the design roughly around the center of the leafy patterned paper.
7. For assembling the card, I adhered the side strip as well as the leafy paper strip on top of my card front covering it completely. The leafy piece had two empty areas – one on the side where I had cut off a square the same size as the Merci sentiment piece and another empty area in the center where I had die cut the leaf design. I inlaid the Merci sentiment square as well as the teal-ish leaf design into these empty areas.
7. For the butterfly, I debated with myself whether to go for a popped- up look or stick to inlaid. I landed in the middle and simply adhered the butterfly right on top to create a somewhat-raised look, but not completely popped up.
8. I also added dash lines with my Sakura Gelly Roll Souflle pen in blue color to give it a handmade look. A couple confetti circles and small die cut circles leftover from the card above finished this card.
Here are some more closeups of both of these cards:
