Simon Says Stamp | August 2018 card kit – Mandy’s Flowers – Card idea 1

Hi friends, today I am starting a series of 6 card ideas using Simon Says Stamp August 2018 card kit – Mandy’s Flowers. For most of these I used the gorgeous floral stamp set and in some cards I also used several patterned papers too. So watch this space for a new card idea each day for this whole week. {I know I am kinda late to the party – SSS September 2018 card kit – Beautiful Mermaids – is already out and on my instagram I have already shared an quick-ish craft idea using those images. But, I did create these pretty cards several days ago and could not not-share them with you all. So here I am, telling myself better late than never.}

Here’s the card for today:

I started by die cutting a stitched rectangle from Strathmore watercolor paper. I used the Stitched Rectangle die from SSS to do the same. On this one using MISTI and Archival Black ink, I stamped my image. This ink is a waterproof ink and does not bleed when it comes in contact with water. The only condition is that the ink / image itself should be completely dry before taking water to paper.

Using my waterbrush and three distress inks (my current fav colors) – Picked Raspberry, Salty Ocean and Mowed Lawn – I colored the image.

Next I prepped by card base. Using Diagonal Stripes background stamp from SSS (Simon Says Stamp), I heat embossed with Zing Clear embossing powder.

I wasn’t looking for a crisp image here, just some texture and subtle details, and the area in the middle would be covered by my focal point, so did only basic heat embossing around all the sides.

For my sentiment, I used the tiny ‘with thanks’ stamp from the same Mandy’s Flowers stamp set and stamped it with Archival Black ink on SSS Cotton Candy cardstock. I also die cut it out using a small banner die from My Favorite Things. This die set is a staple in my stash just like the stitched rectangle die set from SSS.

Finally I assembled the card by foam mounting my focal point slightly off-centered, tying a ribbon at the top and adding a few flat backed gems Spring Green gems from Pretty Pink Posh. The beautiful ribbon came from one of Spellbinders monthly card kits.

There you have it. No complicated techniques, but still a beautiful card just because the stamp set is oh so pretty.

Do you subscribe to these card kits? If not, do give them a try. With large stamp sets (and several times two stamp sets in a kit), cardstock, matching patterned papers and several other goodies they are a great value for money. These always come with some fun product – like some new colored embossing powder or mixed media product or some Ranger tool etc.

This particular kit included a background stamp in addition to the 6×8 inch Mandy’s Flowers stamp set, a Nuvo drops sampler, a yard of twine and Tonic Powder Blue Lace embossed paper in addition to the stickers, patterned paper and cardstock. The stamp sets are available for purchase separately also, however the price of just the two stamps from this kit is more than the amount you’d pay for the whole kit + shipping! So it is truly cost effective to be a subscriber and get the kit.
