Simon Says Stamp – Fluttering By Release inspiration

Hi Friends, today I have something really exciting to share with you – a brand new Simon Says Release called Fluttering By!

I am so grateful to Simon for sending me the Picture Book Squirrel die and here is what I made with it :-)

To be really honest, I struggled with this card a bit. I have been having some family things going on (all good things, birthdays etc) and have been so busy this past couple weekends. But finally I got enough time to play yesterday evening and whipped up this fun card. :-)

To start with, I die cut the squirrel using kraft cardstock from my stash and added just a hint of gray / black on her nose and belly. I also added just the tiniest bit of pink to her ears. I wanted to be able to move the shape around while I planned my layout, so I used the die to trace her shape on another scrap piece of cardstock and fussy cut it out. I trimmed it a little inside the border and on top adhered all the die cut pieces on top. I skipped the eyes though, and simply used a micro pen to color in their places (on the underlying white cardstock).

Next I used one of the patterned papers from my stash and cut a piece of it out as wide as my card base. For the top part, I used the largest of the Wavy Scallop Stitches dies from Simon Says Stamp and gave it a fun border.

I used my MISTI to line up the border panel as well as the squirrel and layout a few leafy images from Simon Says Stamp’ ‘Nutty Over You’ set. This one came in October 2016 card kit and seems to be discontinued now, but I still love it for all the cute little leaf images. While stamping these, I used Bundled Sage Distress ink.

Using MISTI again, I stamped the sentiment from the same set and it reads “nuts about you”. I used the Black Archival ink for the sentiment and stamped it multiple times as I was working with textured cardstock.

Finally I adhered the border panel using foam tape at the bottom and tucked in the squirrel on one side. I used scortape to secure her and make her look like she is standing behind that border.

This card was quite unusual for me – I am not at all an expert on creating scenes with critter and squirrels are mostly brown / gray, so can’t make them colorful and shiny like Unicorns or Mermaids or Fairies! So, no bling!  But I do love how it turned out. I do hope you will give this idea a try. I will be using this die to create some other fun projects for sure.

I will be back with the whole list of items being released in this release because I think there are some really gorgeous products in there!
