Spellbinders | Combining kits

Hi friends, I have a card to share today that combines several different kits as well as one other die set ‘Celebrate with Cake’ from Spellbinders. I had way too much fun with this one.

I did several different things for this one and I will try to explain as best as I can. All patterned papers, all ephemera and the pink cardstock for today’s project came from this month’s card kit.

  1. Lots of die cutting:

  2. Cut one patterned paper panel using only the outer panel die from Large Die of the Month for this month, another using this die + the inside insert.

  3. Cut one insert (for the pull out tab) from 80lb white cardstock from my stash.

  4. Cut the cake using pink cardstock and also a flower.

  5. Cut the back layer for cake using gold mirrored cardstock.

  6. For the cake stand I used a wood patterned paper I had in my stash and also one of the patterned papers from this month’s kit that had a large gold foiled herringbone / arrow pattern. Also, when I tried to arrange the cake and the stand, I realized that both wouldn’t fit nicely on the lower portion of the easel. So I trimmed off the bottom part of the stand to make both of them fit. (For the wood patterned paper, I am not able to locate the exact one I used, but I will link below some others that would work equally well.)

  7. Cut a leaf using gold mirrored cardstock.

  8. Cut two each of the pink candles and the gold flames.

  9. Assembly

  10. Assemble the main framework of the pull out easel.

  11. On the top most piece, add score lines to make the inside easel part.

  12. Lay the front most piece face down and add strong tape adhesive (from card kit) to only the bottom stripe. Remove release paper from take, position the pull out white piece and secure in place.

  13. Add adhesive on the three closed sides of the easel and adhere the bottom piece (the one without the easel cut out).

  14. Assemble the candle so that front and back looks same.

  15. Adhered pink cake layer to gold cake layer.

  16. Adhere gold bottom to wood cake stand – I see gold dipped home decor pieces everywhere these days. And this cake stand is my take on it :-)

  17. Start by positioning the candles and adhering them with liquid adhesive (multi medium matte).

  18. Add cake with the help of strong tape.

  19. Use foam tape to adhere the stand and the ‘happy birthday’ banner.

  20. Add flower and leaf as well as just a few gems (supplies listed below).

  21. Add a ribbon at the top of the tab so it is easy to pull it out.

I am so in love with this month’s large die of the month. It makes creating a pull out easel card a breeze.
