Spellbinders Stamp of the Month kit

Happy Donut Day, my friends! Yes, it’s a thing in my part of the world and yes, there are places you can get deals on donuts today!! On this space though, we are celebrating with a donut —– yes, you guessed it, CARD! :-D

For this card today, I used the Stamp of the Month kit and dies (sold separately), to create a fun colorful, card.

I started by die cutting the largest fancy edged rectangle from Neenah Desert Storm cardstock. Then I stamped an all-over pattern using various donut stamps on it using Hero Arts ArtPrint Brown dye ink. I love this combination for my backgrounds a lot. It isn’t as subtle as tone-on-tone, but works pretty well.  Once all stamping was done, I let it dry completely for a couple mins and then dry embossed with Love Stripes embossing folder.

For my focal point, I stamped and watercolored one donut. I used Canson watercolor cardstock and Ooku watercolor brush pens in Pink and Verdurous colors. I won these as part of an Instagram giveaway and I am loving these pens so far. Rich, flowy colors and so easy to use. After coloring, I used a matching die to cut out the donut. These dies are sold separately and can greatly enhance the use of Stamp of the Month kits.

At this point, I wanted something to anchor my donut, so I used a patterned paper from my stash that looks like a tablecloth and cut out a strip of it. I dry embossed it with the same Love Stripes embossing folder, but I put the paper in such a way that the stripes went horizontal instead of diagonal. A neat little way of getting more out of this classic, evergreen embossing folder design.

I realized I should have probably stamped my sentiment before embossing. Oopsie, but MISTI came to the rescue and I stamped on this embossed surface with the same brown ink.

I adhered everything and got the panel ready, but I felt like it needed just a touch of something else. So I used Simon Says Stamp Audrey Blue cardstock to cut out the edges of same sized fancy edged rectangle and layered it on top of bottom of the panel, just for some added color. I adhered the finished panel to the cardbase and used jewels from Rainbow Sparkle set from Little things from Lucy’s cards to finish it off.

And just because I could not leave it alone, I added traces of gold with my Gold Deco marker along the yellow paper and along the sides of my donut. I also added Nuvo drops all over the lines of glaze on my donut. :-)

Hope you like this card and I inspired to try something with all these ideas.
