Using Journaling cards for focal points on Cards – using Spellbinders Card kit Feb 2020

Hi guys, do you use journaling cards on your cards? This time the Spellbinders Card kit of the month has a pack of journaling cards and I decided to make them focal points on my cards :)

These were pretty straightforward-ish to put together. I picked my cards, I picked the background patterned paper for it and embellishments (die cuts). Just four quick-ish cards. Some tips for making cards like these:

  1. Best to use a kit / pack / collection of papers, journals and die cuts. That way you have a theme for images as well as colors, already picked out for you.

  2. When layering paper shapes, use different types of adhesives – flat adhesives (flat tape, liquid adhesives etc) as well as dimensional adhesive (foam squares, foam tape etc). Just so you know, the Spellbinders Card kits have both types of adhesives. :)

  3. Use contrasting colors behind the focal points to add interest.

  4. Pick matching bling – colors of sequins / gems that match the foil colors, for example – to keep a cohesive look. Again, most Spellbinders card kits come with matching bling.

With those tips, now let’s take a look at the actual cards:
